Sklárna květná 1794 / opening
The opening of the installation in the space of the Chapel of the Offering of the Virgin Mary in the Palace of Nobles will take place at 5 p.m. in the foyer of the Palace of Nobles. The exhibition is conceived as a meeting with the contemporary design of the Moravian Glassworks Květná, now run by the design duo Klára Janypková and Tomáš Kučera. It presents the story of the Moravian glassworks with a tradition dating back to 1794, when it was founded by Prince Alois I of Liechtenstein. The long-standing connection between craft and contemporary design is also evidenced by international awards, including in the International Design Awards competition. Visitors will see how today’s designers build on historical designs - for example, a set of drinking glasses by architect Bohuslav Fuchs, which was newly reinterpreted by designer Klára Janypková. The installation also responds to the space of the Palace of Nobles itself, whose reconstruction in the 1960s was based on Fuchs’s design.
