Brno Art Week is a platform that annually organizes a unique festival dedicated to visual arts. For fourteen years, Brno’s museums, galleries, libraries, and schools focused on visual arts have been jointly presenting a wide range of exhibitions and accompanying programs. The aim of BAW is networking and sharing among institutions, artists, and art enthusiasts, as well as facilitating art, which remains a continuous and demanding challenge for those who produce, present, and teach it.
All galleries and museums dedicated to visual arts in Brno participate in the festival, along with independent and off-space galleries. A unique aspect is also the collaboration between galleries and higher education institutions focused on the arts. In Brno, Art Week is distinctive due to its close cooperation with TIC BRNO, a contributory organization of the city, and the Faculty of Education at Masaryk University, which trains future art teachers.
Additionally, the festival helps visitors navigate the offerings of cultural institutions, serving as a guide to places where they can experience art. Art Week is an internationally recognized format, with Brno following a tradition that has long been established in cities like Vienna and other European metropolises. Following Brno’s lead, cities such as Berlin and Prague have also joined in organizing their own Art Weeks.
