Styling of the past
A guided walk with historian and writer Michal Konečný exploring the history of heritage conservation as it is imprinted in the inner center of Brno. It presents Brno as a living archive, where shifts in approaches to the protection of cultural heritage are recorded directly in the urban space. It shows how the idea of “historical authenticity” has changed across different periods and how it has been shaped by contemporary architectural and social trends. The façades of Baroque houses are rather a reflection of how Czech society at the end of the 20th century imagined the Baroque. Admiration for Classicist ornamentation, in turn, represents an unspoken rebellion against modernism. The walk begins at 3 PM at the Parnas Fountain on Zelný trh.
