Šimon Sýkora: Eyes in Low Light

Eyes in Low Light
16. 4. - 18. 5. 2026
Curator: Adéla Petříčková
Unlike Šimon Sýkora’s previous work, the exhibition Eyes in Low Light at Spektrum Gallery will primarily feature portraits and interiors. The canvases depict figures set in everyday situations taking place inside taverns and inns, on the outskirts of cities, or in vague rural landscapes. An important part of the artist’s practice is his earlier experience with performative trolling, for example through provocative infiltrations of events organized by far-right political groups. This post-ironic artistic strategy surfaces in his painting as an inconspicuous yet important principle which allows the images to confront the banality of expected narratives and warp them into an unsettling, sharp-witted dialogue with the viewer.
The gallery’s opening hours depend on the format of each exhibition. You can find current information on our Instagram. Visits outside opening hours can be arranged individually.
