HEIRS OF TODAY: BRNO ART WEEK 2026 AT THE JIŘÍ MAHEN LIBRARY

23. 4.  16.45  Knihovna Jiřího Mahena v Brně

This year’s edition of exhibitions, interventions, and performative entries into the space of the Central Library of KJM, as part of BAW, is connected by a shared curatorial concept by Olga Čejková titled Heirs of Today. We proceed from the assumption that the present moment is defined by what has happened in the past, while at the same time fundamentally shaping the state of things to come.

OPENINGS
April 23, 2026 from 4:45 PM / Heirs of Today
➤ from 4:45 PM / WHAT I SEE / WHAT YOU SEE – Opening of an artistic intervention in the display window at the corner of Kobližná and Poštovská streets.

➤ from 5:45 PM / The Girl and the Soil – Ritual performance and exhibition opening (Library Club, former café).

EXHIBITIONS

Forest Offspring
Simona Vinšová is a professional art conservator. The necessity of remaining invisible behind the restored piece forms the basis of her approach to material. The exhibition of object collages is complemented by theriomorphic watercolors by artist and multi-genre creator Mae Sara.
(atrium + 2nd gallery level)

The Girl and the Soil
Unpleasant feelings during evening walks bring us back to a primitive sense of fear. The main narrative line of the exhibition by Ester Hotová and Mina Hess draws on pop-cultural phenomena such as female rage and personal mythology, interconnected with traditional folkloric motifs.
(Library Club, former café)

WHAT I SEE / WHAT YOU SEE
Zdislava Dolečková operates at the boundary between analog and digital photography. For her, photography primarily represents a record, understood as a contact between body, time, and material.
Curators: Šimon Kříž and Františka Orságová
