The exhibition, prepared for the 100th anniversary of Igor Zhoř’s birth, will showcase the life and work of an exceptional Brno educator and theorist of art education. Zhoř was an author of publications on contemporary Czech and international art, a curator, critic, and organizer of art and cultural events who played a pivotal role in shaping the Brno art scene in the second half of the twentieth century. His concept of art pedagogy, which integrated visual and performative forms of contemporary art through his own creative experience, foreshadowed and significantly influenced the development of contemporary educational gallery practices.

The exhibition will showcase the full scope of Zhoř’s theoretical, popularization, educational, and organizational activities through an accessible and interactive installation. In collaboration with Zhoř’s family, the exhibition will feature numerous unique archival items, including texts, catalogues, publications, correspondence, photographs from art events, Zhoř’s own conceptually designed New Year’s cards, a collection of matches, fire-inspired artworks, and a selection from his extensive art collection. This collection reflects Zhoř’s deep connections with multiple generations of artists, particularly from the so-called “Zhoř family.” The exhibition will also include works by several artists from various generations of the Brno circle, including Dalibor Chatrný, Leonid Ochrymchuk, Jan Wojnar, Pavel Rudolf, Jan Steklík, J. H. Kocman, and many others.
