Jan Bražina: hochstapler

00.00  Galerie Art

The work of Jan Bražina is rooted in sculpture, and one of his frequently used materials is textile, which for him symbolizes domestic peace and a sense of grounding. This omnipresent material, which surrounds us in everyday life—from carpets and curtains to underwear or dish towels—serves as a banal language for speaking about the mundane.
His work transitions into the creation of masks and costumes; through his art, he expresses his feelings about the rigidity of heteronormative relationships. He uses the diversity of materials to reflect the complexity of human relationships. He experiments with dyeing, sewing, tearing, and other forms of material degradation. The subsequent soaking of textiles in plaster or concrete is an entirely intuitive process and helps to depict the contrast between the softness and hardness of certain materials. Currently, a key technique in his work is no-sew patchwork, which also feature in the pieces exhibited at Galerie Art.
